Our Wedding in Queenstown: An Intimate Celebration by Lake Wakatipu
There are some places that feel like they were made for moments that matter—and for us, that place was Queenstown.
Tucked into the side of Lake Wakatipu, surrounded by mountains and moody skies, we celebrated our wedding in the most perfect, intimate way. No fuss, no overthinking—just our favourite people, the wild beauty of the South Island, and a whole lot of love.
A Setting That Needed Nothing
Lake Wakatipu doesn’t ask for much—it's already breathtaking. The stillness of the water, the way the light hits the Remarkables, and that fresh, alpine air... it was everything. We chose a spot right on the lake’s edge for our ceremony, and it honestly felt like the world stopped for us in that moment.
Nature did most of the decorating—but of course, I couldn't resist bringing a bit of floral magic to the scene.
The Flowers: Bold, Romantic, Us
Even for a small wedding, I wanted the florals to reflect everything we love—classic, elegant, full of colour and movement. I created a lush bouquet with a palette that popped against the natural tones of the landscape: bold reds, soft pinks, a touch of rust and deep burgundy, all tied together with seasonal textures and a romantic red velvet ribbon tail dancing in the breeze.
For the ceremony, we kept things simple—a freestanding floral installation that was the perfect contrast with the surrounding landscape. Organic, sculptural, and just enough. Nature was the backdrop, and the flowers were the frame.
The Feel: Intimate and Real
There’s something incredibly special about keeping things small. Every hug was longer, every conversation deeper. We laughed, cried (a lot), and didn’t once worry about timelines or traditions. We had space to be present—and that was the real gift.
After the ceremony, we shared a lakeside picnic, clinked glasses under soft clouds, and watched the light change on the water. No big reception, no rush. Just us, our people, and a setting that felt like it belonged to us for the day.
Looking Back
Our wedding was exactly what we wanted: intimate, personal, and deeply meaningful. Queenstown gave us the drama and beauty we love, and the simplicity of the day let all the best bits shine—love, connection, and a few stunning florals.
If you're dreaming of a small wedding that still feels big on heart (and beauty), trust me: you don’t need much more than a beautiful spot, good company, and a few flowers to pull it all together!!
